Hi, RS Forum folks. My daughter will be studying abroad in Granada in the fall of 2022, and we are running into a logistical challenge. She will be starting her trip from the US with a few days visiting family in Milan, then flying into Malaga from there. Since she will be arriving into Spain from within the Schengen area, it is our understanding that she will not be going through passport control/immigration at Malaga. Does anyone know if there is an immigration office at the Malaga airport where she could get her student visa stamped? Any other suggestions about how do handle this?

Thanks so much for your input!

As of now have Best of Andalucia booked for October of 2023. Considering doing up to an additional two weeks solo in Spain. Interested in two, maybe three locations that would make great base locations for stays up to a week – with local sites and possible day trips. Would depend on public transportation – no car. Any that have first hand knowledge of this tour – please share. As an aside – also looking at a similar type option in England, but am leaning towards Spain. Interests include history, architecture, photography….. Food is not a priority – but I do eat. Should I book later – earlier? Thanks for all comments – appreciate the help.

The post Best of Andalucia - plus??? first appeared on BENIDORM GUIDE.

Hello! My husband and I will be going on our honeymoon in mid-September. We will be going to Rome and the Amalfi Coast for the first part of the trip, but wanted to add one more country to the last part of our trip. We are deciding between Lisbon, Barcelona, or Croatia.

We’re heading to Evora, Caceres, Segovia & Salamanca late August. Evora & Caceres are a do-over for our Portugal (plus Caceres) trip back in 2019 where I broke my foot and we had to return to the US early (and had to skip those spots). I had restaurants all picked out for those two spots but for this trip we’ve added some additional days in both (so need more places). With covid we’re hoping to eat outside as much as possible. I’ve gone through my restaurants and a couple do have outside but hoping to get some recommendations for others you enjoyed that have outside seating (specifically for dinner). We aren’t fancy so not looking for Michelin star type places. We do try to avoid the super touristy spots (basically we like to eat where the locals eat). Here’s where I had us booked or my top picks for both from the last round or research to give you an idea. Any suggestions would be welcome (or feedback on these, it’s been a while since I did my research so things could have changed!).

Evora
Taberna Tipca Quatra Feira- seems they have added a couple of tables outside
Terceiro Tempo- this one is now closed
Restaurante Sao Domingos- doesn’t appear to have outside
Coruja a Mesa-doesn’t appear to have outside
Dona Laura-doesn’t appear to have outside

Caceres-original trip had 2 nights, now we have 4
La Maltraviesa- has outside
Tapara- has outside

Salamanca & Segovia are new. I have some spots picked out but would love suggestions.

Thanks in advance!

The post Restaurant recommendations with outside for Evora, Caceres, Segovia & Salamanca first appeared on BENIDORM GUIDE.

I’m deciding between bringing my phone (not eSim compatible) and another phone (eSim compatible) to Europe with me. Both are unlocked. I’m leaning toward just bringing my phone and getting a physical sim at FCO/Roma Termini since prices don’t seem to be THAT different between eSim and sim. I’ve read the prices can be significantly different between booths at Termini and FCO, though.

I’ll primarily be using my data to navigate, so I don’t anticipate using a lot (traveling for 25 days). Typically in a billing cycle I use 10-12GB, but that’s because I have unlimited in the U.S. and I use my phone a lot. I think I can get away with using maybe 5GB + topping up since I can use wifi to make international calls/send pictures through Facebook Messenger.

I’m just wondering if anyone has any recent experiences with any of the SIM providers (from what I read, TIM, Windtre, and Vodafone – Iliad won’t work for me since I’m also going to 3 other EU countries). The latest reviews I could find were glaringly negative and apparently sometimes didn’t even work at all, but I do understand that most people who have a good experience don’t bother leaving reviews.

Thanks for any input!

The post eSIM vs SIM cards at FCO/Roma Termini? first appeared on BENIDORM GUIDE.

Hello, I’d like to ask for some feedback on a trip to Spain and Portugal in August for 20 nights (the last 3 weeks of August). Some of the details are incomplete (like destinations surrounding our lodging location, how best to travel between Lisbon/Nazare/Coimbra/Porto). I would be very appreciative of all your help!

I am aware that August is not typically advised, but that is a constraint of our trip. I am also aware that many users on this forum recommend sticking to just Spain or Portugal. However, I am willing to make some sacrifices (see less places) to see a good variety of destinations. I would also like to minimize the number of disruptive traveling days, etc. We thought to avoid Sevilla/Granada due to the heat and to instead visit the Basque Country.

To make the itinerary below more manageable (and to add 1 night to Central Portugal and to Porto), I am thinking of also combining Coimbra with Central Portugal, but I do not know where it is preferred to stay during that time. Or, perhaps I should skip Barcelona altogether for a less rushed trip. I would add those nights to Madrid/Toledo and Portugal.

—————- Format = Destination, # of Nights, Travel in, Travel Out

Lisbon, 0, (we have a long layover of 8 hours here on the way to Barcelona)

Barcelona, 3, flight, high-speed train

Madrid (maybe day trips to Toledo/Segovia), 5, high-speed train, drive

Basque Country (San Sebastian), 3, drive, flight

Lisbon, 3, flight, ?

Nazare/Central Portugal, 2, ?, ?

Coimbra, 2, ?, ?

Porto, 2, ?, flight

Thank you for your feedback! We are most interested in generally exploring cities, food, and local culture. We would like a mix of high-energy cities and low key towns/villages.

The post 3 weeks in Spain and Portugal in late August first appeared on BENIDORM GUIDE.

My wife and I are travelling back to where we first met in Spain, reliving our past life….. We were there in ’77 and want to go to the exact building where we met all those years ago in Sitges… we were backpacking round as many of you have also done back then and the 5 and 10 $ a day books were everywhere….. we have scoured old book stores and the net far and wide but have come up empty…..

What we are after is the actual address (street number and street name) of a hotel/hostel in Sitges called the “Terminus”, we think it appeared in the book as a place to stay…… there is a hostel in Sitges now with a similar name on the net called “Hostal Termes”. We don’t think this is the place we are after, but will check it out when we are there in a few days….

We would like any forum member who has an older (’76 or soon after) version of the $5/10 a day book (we note that bigtyke, a forum member, mentioned he has a copy and there are probably others) to have a look in it for us and post the address here… we don’t feel anyone will be breaching any copyright laws in doing so. It will be such a thrill for a couple of silly oldies to be back at the exact place we started our lives together all those years ago.

Hopefully someone will help us out and come up with the, up until now, elusive address…
thanks Mr C

The post Old address info first appeared on BENIDORM GUIDE.

Hello everyone! A little background — my fiancé and I are getting married next June and would like to honeymoon in Europe mid-June. I’ve only been to Europe once (he’s been multiple times) and have a massive desire to travel all around Europe. I’ve been cautioned by everyone not to turn my honeymoon into a packed European trip, but rather to pick fewer destinations and enjoy them. The only problem is I’m having a little trouble doing that!

I pretty much don’t think we should go to big cities (ie London and Paris) but rather take the chance to explore the more relaxing destinations Europe has to offer. I am the kind of person who can chill out at a resort for days and be perfectly content, but I need to balance that with my fiancé’s extremely active lifestyle and desire to explore and do activities. We’re hoping to go for ~2 weeks. We are very open but right now we’re thinking 2 out of 3 of the following:

French Riviera (is Cap Ferrat too secluded? Someone said St. Tropez is nice)

We usually fly down to the costa del sol or the costa blanca but having recently got a dog and a decent car we want to go away as a family in June and drive down France to Northern Spain.
We have never been to Northern Spain before so I’m not sure where to start looking so I would like some ideas on nice towns anywhere in Northern Spain but near to the sea. We will be staying in a private rental as we normally do so just need to narrow down my search.
We would like a town near to the sea with plenty of tapas bars and restaurants where we can go and sit outside with our dog and lots of walks and places to visit nearby. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated!

The post Ideas for towns to stay in in Northern Spain? first appeared on BENIDORM GUIDE.
